Sports Day

10th May 2018

Dear Parents/Carers,

As mentioned in our latest newsletter, the whole school Wingfield Sports Day will now take place on Friday, 25th May 2018.

Firstly, a huge thank you to Crofton Albion FC who have kindly allowed us the use of their playing fields to host our upcoming Sports Day. Crofton Albion FC is located on Weigall Road- directly opposite Moorhead Way. A map detailing its location can be found on the reverse side of this letter.

EYFS Sports Day – 9:30 – 10:30:

Children from EYFS (Nursery and Reception) will have their Sports Day from 9:30 – 10:30.

Parents of EYFS children are welcome to attend the duration of the event.

To save time, we kindly request that children are brought to school in their PE kit. We would be very grateful if those parents that are attending could support the children and staff on their short journey from the school to the ground, which is located at the end of Moorhead Way. Upon arrival at the ground, children will be split into groups of roughly 10 and will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of different track and field events. Any parents who come along to spectate at the event are kindly requested to support the children and staff during their return journey when the events have been completed.

KS1/2 Sports Day – 11:00 – 14:30

Children in KS1/2 will have their Sports Day from 11:00 – 14:30. The day will be split into two parts with the morning (11:00 – 12:30) focused on Field Events and the afternoon (13:15 – 14:30) dedicated to Track Events.

Parents are welcome to attend the AFTERNOON ONLY and should arrive no earlier than 13:15.

Children in KS1/2 will be grouped into four houses, all of which will be represented by a colour and named after one of the role models used to celebrate our school values. On the day, children will be required to wear a suitable top in their house colour. Details of your children’s house and colour will be sent to you shortly.

During the morning, children will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of different field events showcasing their throwing, jumping and coordination skills. Children will be scored not only on their athletic ability, but also on their sportsmanship and how well they represent Wingfield school values and learning dispositions. The afternoon will see children compete against each other in a range of track events that encompass skill, speed and teamwork. Points will be given to those finishing in 1st, 2nd or 3rd in these races and these points will be combined with those scored during field events. Parents are welcome to come and watch these track events and will be expected to cheer and encourage all competitors.

Children will have a picnic lunch at the ground and therefore will require a healthy packed lunch. Should your child usually receive free school meals, there will be an opportunity to request a packed lunch from the school kitchen and this should be noted on the return slip that will be sent home detailing your child’s colour and house. Please return this part of the letter as soon as possible.

Whilst points are being totaled and winning houses decided, there will be the highly anticipated parent and staff races.

At the end of the KS1/2 Sports Day, there will be a short presentation and the winning house of Sports Day 2018 will be announced.

There are toilets and drinks facilities on site and a member of staff trained in first aid will be present throughout the entire day.

We hope that you are able to attend this annual event, which promises to be a fun-filled and very energetic day!

Thank you in advance for your continued support,

Kind regards,

Mr Mitakos
